Educational Publishing Summit 2003:
Creating, Managing, & Selling Content
AEP’s Educational Publishing Summit 2003: Creating, Managing,
& Selling Content was held at the Loews L’Enfant Plaza
Hotel in Washington D.C., June 3-5.
This year’s summit, unanimously the best one to date, kicked
off with a pre-Summit schedule of exciting workshops and a lovely
cocktail reception on Tuesday evening at the historic Anderson House.
Two days of sessions and keynote addresses followed, encompassing
four tracks:
• Editorial
• Sales & Marketing
• Management
• Trends
Highlights this year were the keynote address by Richard C. Levy,
who has licensed the 'Furby' and 130 other best-selling concepts;
a general session by Dr. Grover J. Whitehurst from the U.S. Department
of Education; an Elam Lecture by Sanford M. ("Sandy")
Dornbusch, Reed-Hodgson Professor of Human Biology, Stanford Center
on Adolescence; a riveting speech by Diane Ravitch, author of a
best-selling new book, The Language Police: How Pressure Groups
Restrict What Students Learn; and a general session by a panel of
executives on International Markets and Educational Content.
In addition, winners in all three of AEP’s awards programs
were honored: Distinguished Achievement and Golden Lamps, Beacon
Awards for excellence in educational marketing, and Student Publishing.
The Summit and Awards Gala were attended by over 400 educational
publishing professionals.
