Market Research and Surveys
The 2006 AEP Salary & Benefits Survey provides indispensable information about the compensation and benefits provided to individuals in the supplemental educational publishing industry.

Government Relations

Supplemental publishers are greatly impacted by policy and legislative actions, as evidenced by No Child Left Behind. Through an ongoing program of internal and external communication, relationship building, liaisons with government representatives, and mobilization of the membership towards common goals, we ensure the voice of the supplemental publishing industry does not go unheard.

As we move toward the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act , AEP is preparing its members to help reshape key elements of that legislation. Members may visit the AEP website daily for the latest news and information, unite with other members in our call to action, and talk back to teachers, students and legislators about the information and perspective they’ll only get here.

Areas of interest include:

  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
  • No Child Left Behind Act
  • NIMAS
  • Postal Rates
  • Children’s Privacy

AEP Government Relations lists bills to watch, reports the latest news, and tracks legislative activity on the state and federal levels.  In addition, all AEP members are welcome to receive regular communications about Washington-related activities via email. (Members can opt in at anytime via their Web User account.) Email updates, special reports, and industry events take publishers inside the Beltway and provide the kind of perspective they can only get here.

Business & Marketing Opportunities

Online Product Gallery
For publishers and educational producers, the Online Product Gallery offers outstanding opportunities. Every AEP member can post as many products as they want in the Gallery with each entry having: a picture of the product, essential contact information, and a brief description. Plus, there's an option to list if international rights are available.

In addition, the international rights designation will also bring potential sales to you. AEP interacts with hundreds of overseas publishers, many of whom are actively looking for international rights for your products. We will be steering these companies to the Gallery, so it is essential you participate

Industry Services Directory (ISD)
For service providers to educational producers, the online, searchable Industry Services Directory (ISD) offers an excellent vehicle for attracting new business. Every AEP service provider member will have a listing in the Directory, making it easy for publishers and visitors to find the assistance they need.

Non-members can only get a cursory listing (company name and mailing address) while members get a quality listing including a 250-character description, full contact information, a color company logo and identification as an AEP member.

All ISD participants can upgrade to an Enhanced Listing, which adds additional information to the listing including the option of an embedded video or a display ad. ($79 a month for members • $199 a month for non-members)

In addition, AEP will be soon offer the Rapid RFP Service, which will enable service providers to receive RPF bids directly to their in box.

Media List
A directory of media contacts is available to all members, which includes name, company, publication and contact information. When it is essential that you reach out to the media, AEP is the first place members can turn to. With just a few keystrokes, this vital distribution information is at your fingertips.

International Markets
Building international markets is essential to educational publishers. AEP, in partnership with the US Commericial Service and the Frankfurt Book Fair, created the Educational Publishing Pavilion (EPP), a fair within the fair designed specifically to facilitate international relationships for developers of educational content. In addition, AEP helps members participate in the International Children's Publishing Exhibit at the Beijing Book Fair and offers publishers a one-of-a-kind Business Development Tour in China to help them understand the Chinese market.

Professional Development

Awards
AEP is proud of its industry-wide annual awards program, honoring the best materials and accomplishments in educational products and marketing. Winners earn the right to display the Lamp of Learning logo, and their products are widely recognized as exhibiting outstanding quality and achievement.

Educational Publishing Summit
AEP’s annual Summit is the premier educational and networking event of the Association. Experienced and accomplished professionals in the industry conduct workshops that benefit participants from their particular job function along many educational tracks (Business of Publishing, Editorial, Sales & Marketing, and Technology). Combined with general sessions featuring exciting speakers, the always-festive awards banquet, and the endless networking opportunities, the Summit is the “must attend” event of the year.

Professional Development/Management Training
Managing in today’s complex work environments is a tremendous challenge. AEP delivers training tailored exclusively for those in the educational publishing industry, ensuring relevant knowledge is gained that can be applied immediately when participants return to their work environments.

Networking Events

Networking is the number one priority for our members, and AEP makes these experiences meaningful. Several annual AEP events and meetings are held throughout the year across the country, and these meetings have networking opportunities built into the agendas as an essential component.

In addition to our professional development programs, we offer several ways to interact with the educational publishing community:

Hall of Fame
The AEP Hall of Fame recognizes extraordinary achievement, professional accomplishments, and a lifetime commitment to educational publishing. All of our inductees have positively affected the quality of education for children and have reshaped the learning landscape. Held in New York each year, this prestigious event draws a crowd of prominent and influential publishers from across the country.

CEO Roundtable                                                                                                           The CEO Roundtable brings together top-level executives to discuss emergent topics, provide dynamic and knowledgeable speakers, and facilitate networking with industry CEOs. Our CEO events take place two times a year in various locations, usually held in tandem with meetings of other groups whose interests overlap with those of educational publishing. Group size at each event is limited to 40, enabling personal contact and in-depth discussions.

Committee Participation
Our members get the chance to help steer the course of our association. Their experience can help us create better programming, and greater involvement increases networking time with our members. We want our organization to be your organization!
