New Book from AEP Guides Publishers through the Next Era of Educational Publishing

NEW JERSEY— The world of publishing is being dramatically transformed by the Internet and other digital technologies. In “Publishing Without Boundaries: How to Think, Work, and Win in the Global Marketplace,” from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP), author Michael Ross presents a primer on the opportunities and threats of the digital age. He explains why publishers must think and act in new ways if they’re to succeed in today’s global marketplace and gives them steps for success.

According to Ross, Senior VP at Encyclopaedia Britannica, publishers now have a vast array of new media and worldwide channels for distributing content, and these developments alter the nature of the business.  The book is both an analysis of the new business environment and a guidebook from an industry veteran who is helping to shape publishing’s future.

“Publishers have to think of themselves as producers of content rather than publishers of books, or CD-ROMs, or, for that matter, any other specific retrieval format,” says Ross.  “Their content should also be able to change form and format, and move freely through a variety of channels.”

To help publishers navigate the treacherous shoals of the emerging business environment, Ross surveys the new complexities of intellectual-property management, licensing, the growth of markets in developing countries and the extent to which certain publishing functions such as printing can be outsourced effectively.

“AEP is proud to present Michael Ross and ‘Publishing Without Boundaries’ as the first publication in our Lamp of Learning Series,” says Charlene Gaynor, CEO of AEP. “His insights into both the macro and micro levels of the international deal will save publishers years of frustration and help them extend the lifespans of their products.”

The book can be purchased online from AEP (http://www.AEPweb.org), the Britannica store (http://store.britannica.com), and Amazon.com. Read a sample chapter on AEP’s website at http://www.AEPweb.org/industryinfo/resources/boundaries.htm.
