Democratic/Republican Presidential Campaign Education Policy Advisors to Speak
at AEP Summit Washington, DC (May 23, 2008) - Senior
Education Advisors for presidential candidates Senator Barack Obama and Senator
John McCain will face off at The AEP Great
Education Forum on Friday, June 6 as part of the Association of Educational
Publishers' Annual Summit. The AEP Great American
Education Forum is co-sponsored by ED in '08 and presented by Transcontinental
Printing. It represents the first exclusive head-to-head presentation of the education
views of the presumptive presidential nominees. Representing
the candidates are Jeanne Century, Director of Science Education, University
of Chicago (Senator Obama) and Lisa Graham Keegan, former Arizona Superintendent
of Public Instruction (Senator McCain). They will field questions from a panel
of publishing industry experts, including Frank Catalano, Senior Vice President
Marketing, Pearson (who will act as moderator); Dr. Sara Davis, Manager of Education
Resource Development, USA TODAY; Neal Goff, President, Weekly Reader Publishing
Group; Margery Mayer, President, Scholastic Education; Joel Packer, Director of
Education Policy and Practice at the NEA; and Bernice Stafford, Consultant, Center
for Interactive Learning and Collaboration. Time will also be allotted for questions
from the audience and from members of the education media. "Education
is the most important issue facing our nation, particularly to those of us engaged
in the business of ensuring success for all students," said Charlene Gaynor,
CEO of the Association of Educational Publishers. "AEP is pleased to take
the lead in creating a venue in which a meaningful and substantive conversation
around critical education issues can take place." The
Forum will take place Friday, June 6 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the JW Marriott (1331
Pennsylvania Avenue). Besides Summit attendees, representatives from 100 organizations
allied to AEP and to education have been invited to attend. All AEP Summit attendees
and media are welcome at the event for no additional charge. Individuals who are
not participating in the Summit but wish to attend the Forum have two options: - AEP
