Publishers association honors year's best educational products

WASHINGTON, DC--JUNE 6, 2008--The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP), the national, nonprofit organization for educational publishers and service providers, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2008 AEP Awards, recognizing the year's most outstanding materials in the field of teaching and learning. The winners of this year's Distinguished Achievement and Golden Lamp Awards were honored at an elegant, black tie-optional gala Friday night at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC.

According to Charlene Gaynor, CEO of AEP, the 2008 winners exemplify what the educational publishing industry should be and foreshadow the advancements still to come in teaching and learning.

"What struck me the most this year had to be the creative ways companies are finding to reach the students of today and tomorrow," said Gaynor. "From innovative software lessons to timely books on environmental awareness to new approaches for teaching ESL/ELL students, it's exciting to see this industry begin to recognize and achieve its true potential in meeting the needs of today's schools."

AEP's Distinguished Achievement Awards (DAAs) recognize the best educational resources within the categories of Curriculum, Periodicals, and Professional Development. The DAAs are evaluated on traits such as efficacy, usability, and overall educational value and are judged by an expert panel of educators, editors, designers, and technology specialists. Due to the number of winners, a complete list of DAA finalists is available on the web at www.aepweb.org/awards/winners.

The Golden Lamp Awards are the industry's equivalent of Best Picture. The "best of the best," Golden Lamp winners are defined by their superior use of content, design, and fulfillment of a product's educational mission. The winners of the 2008 Golden Lamp Awards are:

The 2008 Golden Lamp Awards are sponsored by Words & Numbers.
