AEP Headquarters Moving to Wilmington, Delaware

Organization receives grants to relocate main office and become part of Wilmington business community

Logan Twp., NJ—June 8, 2010—The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) has announced the relocation of its national headquarters from Swedesboro, New Jersey to Wilmington, Delaware. According to CEO Charlene Gaynor, the AEP board of directors approved the relocation based on a number of positives including improved accessibility, reduced costs, and a dynamic business environment.

Speaking at the organization's annual meeting in Washington DC, Gaynor described the details of the decision. With the lease on its New Jersey headquarters expiring this July, AEP contracted with global real estate advisors Newmark Knight Frank Smith Mark to help negotiate a more favorable renewal or, alternatively, to find a new location suitable to the current and future needs of the association. The process led AEP to Wilmington DE. Wilmington offered a thriving urban environment conveniently situated between New York and Washington DC. The property provided significant cost savings in rent, utilities, and maintenance. Additionally, its proximity to public services and transportation allowed for a more flexible and diverse work place.

Added financial support from the State of Delaware and the City of Wilmington cemented the deal. "While saving money was our initial goal, both the city of Wilmington and the state of Delaware showed us that they wanted AEP's headquarters in their neighborhood," said Ms. Gaynor. AEP received a $50,000 grant from the State of the Delaware and a $25,000 grant from the City of Wilmington to help underwrite the cost of renovating, moving and building a new technology infrastructure.

"The added financial support from the State and City proved that Delaware officials are committed to fostering a dynamic growth environment that embraces entities of all sizes from a variety of industries," Gaynor said. "We are excited to be moving into a new headquarters that allows AEP to update its infrastructure, provide more flexibility to its staff, and be part of a thriving business community."

AEP will begin the moving process on July 15; all business will be officially up and running in the new space on August 2. The new office is located at 300 Martin Luther King Blvd., Suite 200, Wilmington, DE 19801. Convenient to major interstates and the Wilmington Amtrak station, AEP is easily accessible to its members and board of the directors. For information about the new headquarters, contact Susan Fletcher, AEP's office manager, at 856-241-7772.
