Best educational products of the year announced
Winners honored at Annual Banquet & Gala hosted by the
Association of Educational Publishers
WASHINGTON, DC --JUNE 19, 2007--The best educational products
of the year were recognized at the Association of Educational Publishers'
(AEP) Annual Awards Banquet & Gala, held June 12, 2007, at
the Renaissance Washington, DC, Hotel. Celebrating its 40th year,
the awards program's Distinguished Achievement and Golden Lamp
Awards recognize the most outstanding materials in the field of
teaching and learning.
The association's chief executive officer, Charlene Gaynor, was
especially impressed by the incredible amount of innovation seen
in this year's products.
"The boundaries between the book, the computer, and the manipulative
are starting to blur, and we're starting to see products in formats
that really redefine what we traditionally think of as educational
materials," said Gaynor. "It's an exciting thing to watch,
and the AEP Awards provide a unique opportunity to see all of this
in one place."
Awards entries undergo a rigorous judging process conducted by
a panel of experienced educators and industry experts. Winners
are chosen based upon a product's efficacy and fulfillment of its
educational mission--in other words, how well it accomplishes what
it sets out to do.
As always, the highlight of the evening was the announcement of
the prestigious Golden Lamp Award winners. Considered the "best
of the best" in teaching and learning materials, the Golden
Lamps recognize superior use of content, design and fulfillment
of educational mission. This year's winners are:
Orchard Gold Star (Technology)
Siboney Learning Group
Rhinos and Raspberries (Instructional
Materials)
Southern Poverty Law Center
The English Picture Dictionary for Spanish Speakers (Books)
LeapFrog SchoolHouse
Independent School (Periodicals)
National Association of Independent Schools
The winners of the 2007 Distinguished Achievement Awards were
also announced at the Annual Awards Banquet & Gala. A complete
list of these winners can be found at www.AEPweb.org/awards/winners.htm.
In addition to the recognition they receive at the banquet, winners
earn the right to display the Lamp of Learning logo, which indicates
to students, parents, teachers, and administrators that their product
meets the highest standard of educational quality.
