AEP Announces Finalists in the 2002 Distinguished Achievement
Awards
April 2002
LOGAN TOWNSHIP, NJThe Association
of Educational Publishers (AEP) today announced the finalists for
the 2002 Distinguished Achievement Awards. Chosen from over 900
entries in 43 categories, the finalists represent the best in the
industry.
The Awards are in their 39th year, and every
year the quality of entries increases, said Charlene Gaynor,
executive director of AEP. Publishers want the finalists and
winners seals on their publications and products to show that they
meet the highest standards in content and design.
The three main Awards programs are Instructional Materials,
Print Publications, and Technology. Within each program there are
subcategories for areas such as books, periodical design, software,
and Web sites. The fourth and most prestigious program, Golden Lamp,
represents the best overall piece in four areas: Books, Instructional
Materials, Periodicals, and Technology. Entry is open to members
and non-members of AEP.
Judging panels are drawn from a national pool of
writing, publishing, and design experts in print and technology;
education editors; educators; and curriculum experts. During the
first round of awards, screening judges conduct an objective evaluation
of all entries; the best products proceed to the next round for
final judging. From these, judges may pick up to four finalists
per category, including the winner, but can choose less if warranted.
In some categories, no finalists are selected.
The judges wont be rushed. Final judging
is a rigorous, all-day event with some panelists choosing to continue
the process another day, commented Gaynor. The judges
scrutinized, compared, and debated the quality of every entry to
make sure that the finalists and winners truly embody the best in
their field.
The winners will be announced Wednesday, June 5 at
AEPs Awards Gala Reception and Dinner held at the National
Press Club.
