M&A Activity Flat in Third Quarter
M&A activity in the education/reference market was flat in
the third quarter this year versus the same year earlier period,
reports merger and acquisition advisory firm Whitestone Communications.
Among the more interesting deals, notes Whitestone Managing Director
Susan Isserman, was the $24 million purchase by Learning
Resources of Educational Insights. "Learning
Resources had been looking to do a good acquisition for a while,
and this is probably their largest acquisition ever."
The largest deal of the quarter saw private equity fund Golder
Thoma Cressey taking private the public Excelligence
Learning Corporation in a $125 million transaction.
For the third quarter, the total number of deals was 13, same as
last year's third quarter, while deal value dropped to $206 million
from $591 million.
