ABC-CLIO Schools
ABC-CLIO Schools announced a new series of professional
development workshops for librarians: Inquiry in History: A Collaborative
Approach. The program advocates a greater focus on partnering
with social studies faculty to develop students' critical thinking
skills and their ability to evaluate information sources.

Century Students. The program advocates a greater focus on
developing students' historical thinking skills and gives teachers

MarketingWorks, Inc.

PLATO Learning, Inc.
PLATO Learning, Inc., announced that PLATO(r) Earth and Space
science earned its fifth award after being named a 2006 Award of
Excellence winner by Technology and Learning magazine.
PLATO also announced that Lafourche Parish Public Schools and
St. James Parish Schools (Louisiana) have selected the PLATO Learning
Environment (tm) for their computer-based assessment and instruction.
Together, the agreements totaled more than $900,000.

Lt. Governor James R. "Duke" Aiona,
Jr. and Department of Human Services (DHS) Director Lillian Koller
joined media personality Dr. Drew Pinsky in celebrating the Hawaii
partnership with Discovery Education, a division of Discovery Communications,
Inc., to launch a statewide Internet-based initiative that encourages
healthy behavior among young people and their families through
Discovery Health Connection.
Discovery Education also announced the addition of more than 150
new VHS, DVD and CD-ROM titles to its award-winning Discovery School
line of multimedia educational products. The titles include engaging
animated series for math, social studies, and language arts curricula
designed to help teachers explore these subjects with their students
in new and creative ways.
Learning Resources, Inc.
As a national corporate sponsor of the 2006 Marine Toys for Tots
campaign, Learning Resources, Inc., a manufacturer of hands-on
educational products and toys for the home and classroom, will
match one-for-one its online shoppers' donations to this year's
Toys for Tots campaign.
Learning Resources also announced it completed its acquisition
of Educational Insights, a leading designer, developer, and marketer
of innovative learning products dedicated to teaching children
the fundamentals of geography, math, reading, science, and other
subjects.
Pearson
Pearson Education has launched two new
interpretive guides for its PASeries (r) product line. The "Family's Interpretive
Guide" and the "Teacher's Interpretive Guide" were
developed as tools for understanding PASeries assessment results
and using them to improve student achievement.
Pearson Knowledge Technologies announced the launch of an updated
version of WriteToLearn(tm), a Web-based learning tool that helps
students develop writing and reading comprehension skills. WriteToLearn
Version 2.0 now contains more than 100 reading passages and 100
essay topics, as well as enhanced administrative tools.
