USED to Name New Ed-Tech Chief

According to an eSchool News report, the U.S. Department of Education has named Tim Magner the new Director of the Office of Educational Technology.  Magner is former deputy director of ED's Office of Educational Technology (OET) and previously served as executive director of K-12 education at Microsoft Corp.  His appointment comes seven months after the departure of Susan Patrick, and at a pivotal time for educational technology.  The president's proposed budget seeks to cut the main source of technology funding for schools, the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) block grant, for the second year in a row.
