FY2007 Budget Update

Andrew Stringer of Washington Partners LLC reported that the Senate complete work on their FY2007 budget resolution on March 16. The resolution provides approximately $883 billion in discretionary spending - a $10 billion increase over the president's request.

One of the most significant aspects of the resolution was passage of an amendmentsponsored by Senators Specter (R-PA) and Harkin (D-IA), chairman and ranking member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education. The amendment, which is offset by changes to advanced funding, provides $7 billion for education, health and workforce programs. The amendment passed 73-27.
