Highlights from FY 2006 Labor, HHS, Education Spending Bill
Last week the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee voted to report
the FY 2006 Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations
bill to the Senate. Highlights for education included:
* An increase of $100 million (over last year's figures) for Title
I grants to Local Education Agencies
* $5 million more toward reading programs
* $7 million more to help schools initiate or expand foreign language
instruction
* An increase of $100 million in Special Education Grant funding
to states
