ETAN Advocacy Day Produces Results

The Educational Technology Action Network (ETAN) recently held two advocacy days in Washington, D.C., in opposition to the Senate Appropriations Committee’s proposed cut in technology funding.  On September 9 and 10, ETAN representatives from 13 states convened on the nation’s capitol, bearing letters signed by over 40 school ditricts, more than 20 national and state education associations, and over 30 high tech companies, arguing the detrimental effects the prposed $91 million cut would have on their respective interests.

According to recent reports, ETAN’s efforts seem to have paid off.  The Appropriations Committee has restored the cuts in its version of FY05 appropriations legislation and will likely seek to provide $691 million for Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT).  However, this new figure still has to pass through the joint House-Senate Committee, so ETAN will continue its efforts to keep the funding for EETT intact.
