Cal Study Highlights Benefits of Preschool
A recent study conducted by the University of California found
that preschool helps shrink achievement gaps between poor and rich
children and better prepares students from all backgrounds for
kindergarten. According to the report, which was released
Sept. 8, all children who received early and regular preschool
exposure showed signs of improvement, however the benefits were
most dramatic for minority and low-income children.
In a less positive finding, the report said that children who
attended preschool for long hours, more than 34 per week, showed
slightly higher levels of aggression and immature social behavior.
