Improvements in Math and English Standards Still Inadequate

The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation released its "State of State Standards 2005" reports last week.  According to the two reports, which were issued nationally, improvements have been made in the standards for both math and English instruction.  However, the two subjects still fall short in terms of meeting the goals set in the NCLB act.  While most states fell into the C or D range in both categories, eleven received F's in math and 8 failed in meeting state English standards.  Overall, 34 states have improved and 15 have declined since the last Fordham report in 2000.
