California High Schools Revamping Vocational Ed. Programs
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is at the helm of a
statewide movement to push "career technical education" at
the high school level. The goal of the new program, modeled after
traditional vocational education programs but with a particular
focus on modern technology in the workforce, is to bridge the gap
between school and the workforce and combat growing dropout rates.
"The one-size-fits-all is an approach that has not worked," Schwarzenegger
spokeswoman Sabrina Lockhart told the Contra Costa Times. "The
governor recognizes we need workers in the career tech field as
well as other professional fields. We need to ensure students have
the pathway to meet those goals and keep them interested in school."
