Under-Taught Languages Get Funding Boost
A University of Maryland grant will fund programs at 34 school
systems across the nation this year, facilitating the teaching
of "under-taught critical languages" such as Mandarin
and Arabic. With the new "Startalk" grants, the university's
National Foreign Language Center hopes to increase interest in
foreign languages that have become more prevalent in today's global
environment, but that have not received as much attention as languages
such as French, Spanish, or German.
