New SAT Tests Reading, Writing, Stamina
Students across the nation took part this weekend in the first
administration of the SAT in its new, reading- and writing-intensive
format. The general consensus seems to be that the exam,
which now opens with a 25-minute essay section and features a new
critical reading section, is too long.
"After a while you just stop caring and want it to be over," reported
Sheryl Nagy, a junior at Burbank (California) High School, in an
Associated Press article. "They added a lot of reading comprehension,
and it was just hard to keep reading and reading and reading."
The revamped, four-hour exam consists of three sections--writing,
critical reading, and math--and a perfect score of 2400.
