CEOs Tell Governors to Ramp Up Education
America's education system is not turning out enough skilled workers
to keep the nation competitive in the fast-paced world of today's
global economy, according to AT&T's Chief Executive Randall
Stephenson and Google CEO Eric Schmidt. The heads of two of the
largest corporations in the U.S. last week asked the members of
the National Governors Association to consider more daring ways
to improve education in their individual states.
"They're graduating the same number of engineers in India
that we are in the U.S., and their economy is 7 percent the size," Stephenson
said. "In my opinion, our education system has fallen flat.
We've gotten fat and lazy."
