Report: Schools Aren't Preparing Kids for College
According to a recent report from education advocacy group the
Alliance for Excellent Education (AEE), high schools aren't doing
a good enough job of preparing students for postsecondary education.
The issue brief, released at a September 12 panel discussion, is
a collection of data from various news sources and studies conducted
by organizations such as ACT.
According to the brief, only 34 percent of students graduate from
high school ready for college, and only 18 percent of high school
freshman graduate in four years, go on to college, and earn an
associate's or bachelor's degree. It also reports that one-third
of those who make it to college must take remedial courses at a
cost of $1.4 billion every year.
