Year-End Report Looks Back, Ahead

Last week, the Association for School Curriculum and Development (ASCD) released their year-end report.  The two-part series offers a look back at the education field's top stories from 2004 and insights on what lies ahead for the coming year.  Part I, the Top 10 News Stories of 2004, includes the continuing debate over Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences theory, findings from studies on direct reading programs, and the ever-present arguments for and against NCLB.  Links to these stories are available in the report.

Part II paints a picture of what's to come in 2005, based on a survey of ASCD SmartBrief subscribers.  Some of the major topics on the minds of education decision-makers include concerns about the achievement gap and professional development opportunities.
