Sec. Duncan Seeks Input on Race to the Top Assessment Program
Competition
October 21, 2009On October 20 U.S. Secretary of Education
Arne Duncan revealed his intention to announce a Race
to the Top Assessment Program competition by March 2010. This competition
would support one or more consortia of States that are working
toward jointly developing and implementing common high-quality assessments
aligned with a consortiums common set of K-12 standards that
are internationally benchmarked, and that build toward college and
career readiness by the time of high school completion.
Secretary Duncan seeks ideas on a preliminary basis, to inform
the design of this (assessment) program and for the
development of a notice inviting applications that establishes the
requirements for this competition and to provide technical assistance
to States
. Input is wanted from states, technical
experts, and members of the public through public meetings and written
submissions.
After holding public meetings and receiving written
submissions, the U.S. Department of Education then will publish
its notice to invite applications for a Race to the Top Assessment
Program Competition.
