Dept. of Education Launches Open Innovation Portal

March 2, 2010—When the Dept. of Education first discussed the Investing in Innovation Fund, Jim Shelton, Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement, talked about developing an online community where education community members could share ideas. Now, the Open Innovation Portal is online and ready for contributors. The main idea is for educators to share what's working, what's not, and find partners in innovation.

"The Web Portal is designed to engage all stakeholders in education: teachers, school administrators, parents, foundations, nonprofit organizations, and the American public," said Secretary Duncan. "I've traveled across the country on a Listening and Learning Tour about education reform, and I have met countless Americans who want be a part of improving our schools. President Obama has set a goal that America, once again, will be the nation with the highest percentage of college-education citizens. To achieve that goal, we will need commitment--and the best and most innovative ideas--from all of our citizens."
