IDEA Letter Campaign A Success

Thank you to all AEP members and educational publishing industry participants for their outstanding support of AEP’s goal to have 200 letters sent to U.S. Department of Education commenting about IDEA provision regarding pre-referral students and the use of supplemental materials. We not only met our goal, but we exceeded it by over 1,000!

In addition to those directly in the publishing industry, we received support from a variety of organizations including the National Education Association, United Cerebral Palsy, the Arc of the U.S., and the Council for Learning Disabilities.

Beyond the vital support we received from Representative Mike Castle (R-DE) over the past months, we were successful in getting additional U.S. Congressmen to lend their support. Representative Ric Keller (R-FL), Representative Michael Bilikaris (R-FL), Representative Brown-Waite (R-FL), and Representative Jim Davis (D-FL) joined together and sent a letter in support of AEP’s initiative.

AEP would also like to extend a special thanks to Bill Evans of Evans-Moor Educational Publishers, who initiated a drive to get support from teachers across the country.

Even when the IDEA deadline passes, AEP’s efforts on behalf of the industry will continue as we move into new stages of government relations activities. With your support, we can make that we achieve our mutual goal of providing quality materials for every educator and student. If you would like more information on AEP’s efforts or have a legislative issue you would like to discuss, please contact AEP at 856-241-7772.

Thank you again to all who participated in this Letter Campaign.
