Announcing the ISBN Granting Program

The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP), the professional association for publishers of educational materials, has entered into an unprecedented partnership with Bowker, the global leader in bibliographic information management and the official U.S. ISBN agency, in which Bowker will provide all AEP members free ISBNs from through December 31, 2008, for any product in their current catalog or on their backlist.

NOTE: Only AEP members whose dues are current by September 1, 2008, may participate in the ISBN Granting Program.

The Significance of the ISBN

The trade publishing industry has used the International Standard Book Number for decades to standardize the data that libraries, distributors, bookstores, and resellers use for research, purchases, and inventory control. In return, companies operating in this sector are better able to track their internal sales data and competitive data against the market.

If all educational materials have a unique ISBN, schools and school districts will be able to research and purchase school products more efficiently. Supplemental publishers will have a standardized data format to track their sales, and if desired, compare to competitors. Moreover, by assigning an ISBN to all educational products and registering them with the BowkerLink database, the materials will reside in a global directory where libraries, stores, schools, and distributors around the world will be able to find them.

How to Participate

The AEP/Bowker ISBN registration process will be open to AEP members only whose dues are current as of September 1, 2008 . If you are interested in membership, please contact Mike Corwin at 856-241-7772.

AEP Members interested in getting free ISBNs for your current catalog and/or backlist should fill out the ISBN Information Request Form.
