Achievement Awards Judging ProcessCongratulations
to the 2008 DAA Winners!
All products submitted undergo a rigorous two-tier judging process by highly qualified
individuals who are experts in their respective areas. Products that are selected
by the initial screening judges go to final judging where a certification panel
of judges review and certify all winners and finalists. At the end of the process,
all entrants may ask to receive the judges’ feedback for use in self-evaluating
their products.
Who Judges the DAA Awards? Our competition
judges come from a wide variety of both professional and volunteer posts within
the educational publishing industry. Judges include teachers, editors, designers,
product developers, curriculum specialists or anyone else who meets our experience
criteria. When are the DAA Awards Judged?
All items are to
be received to AEP headquarters no later than February 11, 2008. Beginning in
February, materials are shipped to various judges. Judging concludes in late March,
and results are sorted, certified and approved for final notification. Finalists
and Non-Finalists are announced in Mid-April. The winners are only announced at
our Awards Banquet, scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2008, in Washington, DC.
How are the DAA Awards Judged?
Curriculum materials are judged as a whole
product and must include teacher instructions. Periodicals can be judged in either
editorial, design or whole publication categories. Professional development materials
are judged as whole products as well. Information on how you can get your results
will be made available in Mid-April or you can send an email to awards@AEPweb.org
for more information. Why is our judging so rigorous? Our
judging process is precise and structured so that only the best possible product
has a chance to win in each category we offer. What makes winning an AEP award
especially prestigious is the rigorous judging process that is used. Entries are
first reviewed by screening judges, who narrow the field followed by the final
judging certifying committee who review and certify finalists and winners in all
categories. Judges are selected from a pool of educational publishing professionals
(writers, editors, designers, educators, product developers, and marketing directors),
who have themselves received accolades for their work. For
