include historical, biographical, autobiographical, and scientific books, as well

Specialized Audience, World Language Books that are used to support instruction,
but are not enough to be used for complete understanding of a topic. Glossaries

Textbooks
Audience: Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12
Subjects: ESL/ELL, Mathematics, Reading, Science, Social Studies,
Specialized Audience, World Language Student or teacher books, which are
not consumables, used to teach aspects of a subject area. May present core instructional
materials. Examples include basal student editions, big book stories, etc.

Workbooks

Subjects: ESL/ELL, Mathematics, Reading, Science, Social Studies,
Specialized Audience, World Language Student books that ARE consumables,
used to teach aspects of a subject area. Students can write in these books and

Audience: Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12 Subjects:

World Language An integrated and comprehensive kit for use in a school environment
to teach or support a particular subject area. This may be a multimedia product.
Curriculum Packages are considered instructional materials. You MUST
submit teacher instructions in order to be judged. If the product comes in multiple
packages, please clearly indicate what pieces make up your sample.

a regular schedule, similar to their print counterparts. They may be delivered
via a website or via email. All web-based entries must be accessible at a permanent

inherently interesting practice topic, event, personality, or group, which informs,

Fiction

How-to Feature

A published discussion or question and answer between a subject and an interviewer.

article of substantial length based on research dealing with an education related
issue. It offers original findings or builds on existing work to reach well-grounded
conclusions presented in clear, jargon-free, and unambiguous writing.

A timely, journalistic article about a significant event or issue. It includes
a compelling title, deck, and lead; logical organization; and a newsy style.

Play
Audience: Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12 An individual
short play, written specifically for or published first in, the periodical. It
features a relevant topic, a compelling narrative, and quality dialogue. It can
be original or an adaptation of a previously published work. |  |
Series
Audience: Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12, Adult Learning
Three or more articles on a related topic that appear in a single issue or several
issues of the same periodical. The content of the articles is clearly linked.
If a series appeared in more than one calendar year, the majority of the issues
must have appeared in 2007. |  |
WHOLE PUBLICATION All
periodicals are judged primarily on their educational value. High quality writing,
design and editorial/design integration contribute to superior educational value. |
Anniversary
or Commemorative Edition Audience:
Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12, Adult Learning A periodical published as a
stand-alone anniversary edition, commemorative edition, or special supplement.
Publications are produced and paid for by an education group, institution, periodical,
or publisher without an outside sponsor. |  |
Enewsletter
Audience: Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12, Adult Learning
An electronic periodical delived via the internet or email that has both editorial
and design content available via download or subscription. |  |
Most Improved
Publication Audience: Grades K-5,
6-8, 9-12, Adult Learning This category recognizes a periodicals dramatic
progress in the standards and quality of editorial and design elements over time.
*Special entry requirement: Submit two separate issues spanning a maximum
of 24 months, the first showing the publication “then” and the second
showing a 2007 publication date. On a separate sheet of paper state the reasons
for and the nature of the changes. |  |
Newsletter
Audience: Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12, Adult
Learning A publication consisting of articles that feature clear reporting
and a functional design organized around a cohesive purpose. Special
entry requirement: Submit three consecutive issues from 2007. |  |
One-Theme
Issue Audience: Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12,
Adult Learning A periodical that devotes 50 percent or more of its
feature content to a single topic or issue, including visual elements that carry
the theme throughout the publication. |  |
Periodical of the
Year Audience: Grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12,
Adult Learning Publications published on a cycle, which supplement
learning in the classroom or at home. Special entry requirement: Please
submit three consecutive issues from 2007 and the publication mission statement.

Publication Audience: Grades K-5,
6-8, 9-12, Adult Learning A periodical produced by an education group,
institution, periodical, or publisher and which is paid for wholly or in part
by another organization or business. While the publication acknowledges the sponsor,

without intrusive promotion of the sponsor’s products. |  |
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Everything
in this category is written for the Adult Learner audience and is general enough
to be used across disciplines and levels.
BOOKS
Audience: Adult Learning Categories:
Instruction, School/Classroom Management Books used to support professional
development in a broad curriculum sense, for example books on how students learn,
best practices in cooperative learning, understanding the diverse learner, are
examples. They would typically contain research supporting instructional techniques.
