TECHNOLOGY
E-Blocks
Positivo Informatica
"This year's winner perfectly represents this
blend of traditional learning with a multimedia approach. And
the goal of the product is simple: teach children English. Judges
said, 'The combination of the tactile blocks with the computer
digital content demonstrates a form of convergence that uses digital
content to supplement time-tested learning manipulatives instead
of the attempt to eliminate manipulatives.' In essence, by moving
the [union] of digital content toward the manipulative this product
should provide an exciting experience to students."
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
Text Talk: Robust Vocabulary Instruction
Scholastic Education
"Effective teachers are a key component in
the classroom, but the addition of engaging and effective learning
materials can only enhance the experience for the students. And
to be a truly valuable instructional material, like tonight's
winner, the product must be pedagogically sound and provide practical
materials for teachers and students. Besides being attractive,
this winner is an effective example of translating research into
practice. It has a high literacy quality, and gives teachers great
suggestions for classroom implementation."
BOOKS

Vocabulary Accelerator
Defined Mind, Inc.
"Choosing the Golden Lamp Book winner is in
interesting process. Judges are presented with books meant for
all ages, in all subjects, with a variety of designs and contents
that would rival any bookstore. To judge these books, our
examiners have to break the books down into their core components
and answer these questions: What is the educational mission of
the book? How does it convey and execute that mission? Does it
succeed?
For the 2006 Golden Lamp winner for Books,
the answer was emphatically yes. This book tackled what is usually
considered a tedious subject with a fresh outlook—one judge
even said, 'it puts the fun in fundamentals…' Most important,
it brings the outside world into the classroom without compromising
the educational goals of the publication."
PERIODICALS

New Moon: The Magazine for Girls and
Their Dreams
New Moon Publishing, Inc.
"What set tonight’s winner apart was
its high-interest material perfectly aimed at its target audience.
From the coverage of topics, to the language and the tone, to
the overall design, this magazine hit the target every time. According
to the judges, 'it tackles tough issues in an appropriate and
engaging way.' And in regards to upholding its mission, 'the cover
art by girls was extremely effective.'"
