1. What is the ICPE?
The International Children's Publishing Exhibit (ICPE) is a collective
exhibit within the Beijing International Book Fair created solely
for publishers and authors of children's
literature and educational materials. Located within the children's
publishing hall at the BIBF, it offers exhibitors maximum exposure
to the very audiences most interested in partnerships,
distribution deals, and rights exchange.
The ICPE is a partnership
of the Association of Educational Publishers, the American
Collective Stand, and the Beijing
International Book Fair.

2. What is the Beijing International Book Fair?
The Beijing
International Book Fair is China’s largest
book fair with approximately 34,000 square meters
of floor space, over 1,000 participating companies, and over 200,000
total visitors in 2006. The exhibition covers books, special publications,
periodicals, electronic publication and audio-video products. It's
considered by many as one of the top four International Book Fairs
in the World. Its stature is growing quickly and steadily with many
first time U.S. and U.K. publishers in attendance.
The organizer of the BIBF, China National
Publication Import and Export (Group) Corporation (CNPIEC), is
a large-scaled cultural enterprise group integrating the import
and export trade and copyright trade of publications as well as
publishing, printing, express delivery, information technology,
exhibition, advertisement into a complex. For more information,
visit www.bibf.net.

3. Who should participate in the ICPE?
If you publish children's literature
or educational materials in any medium--including books, workbooks,
software, videos, CDs, DVDs, games, websites, or more--you should
consider participating in the ICPE. If you're a small publisher,
the ICPE is an inexpensive way to get exposure in the new and rapidly
growing market of China. If you're an international pro and/or are
already planning on exhibiting at the BIBF, you can use the ICPE
as an extension of your marketing platform. (For more on this see "What
if I'm already exhibiting at the BIBF?")

4. Why should I participate in the ICPE?
The ICPE
will expose exhibitors to large numbers of attendees and provide
extensive promotion from the fair itself. Every title entered will
be displayed face-out and numbered for reference in the ICPE Catalog,
which will be available online before and after the event and in
print at the fair itself. Without the expense of staffing a booth,
the ICPE is by far the easiest, most cost-effective way to gain visibility
and establish a market presence in China.

5.
If I exhibit in the ICPE, am I considered a BIBF exhibitor?
Yes, ICPE exhibitors receive the same facilities access
and benefits as all exhibitors at the Beijing International Book
Fair.

6. What
if I am already exhibiting at the BIBF?
While the ICPE is ideal for publishers just breaking into the market,
it's also a great tool for companies who may already have plans to exhibit at
Beijing International Book Fair. Publishers who fall under this category may
enter their BIBF booth number at registration and have it listed alongside their
titles in the ICPE Catalog, doubling their exposure to fair attendees. In addition
to a listing in the print catalog, all ICPE titles will appear online in a searchable
database in the months leading up to the event, and for a period of one year
afterward.

9. Will
my company have to send a staff member to the ICPE?
No, companies are not required to staff their exhibits
at the ICPE. The high cost of travel can often be a major obstacle
to a company's international efforts. Because the ICPE is designed
to make it as easy as possible for companies to gain exposure in
China, we have designed it so that companies have the option of
staffing their exhibit or utilizing the turnkey services provided
by the ICPE. (For more on these turnkey services, see If
I don't attend the ICPE, how will I get sales leads?).
Top
10. Can I staff
my exhibit if I want to?
Yes. For companies who would like to send staff to the ICPE, there will
be meeting space available.
Top
11. If I do attend the ICPE,
will I need an interpreter?
No, representatives from the Beijing International Book Fair will be
on hand to provide interpreting services.
Top
12. If I don't attend the
ICPE, how will I get sales leads?
AEP's and ACS's on-site representatives will provide turnkey services
such as fielding questions, gathering leads, and collecting business cards for
you. You will receive this information in a report after the event.

13. If I do attend the ICPE,
what kind of documentation will I need to travel to China? How
do I go about getting it?
Visas are required for visitors from most foreign countries
traveling to mainland China. Because
obtaining a travel visa can be a long and complicated process,
we recommend going through a visa service such as VisaRite,
Inc., or consulting a travel agent. It is also extremely important
to begin this process as early as possible to ensure all paperwork
is taken care of on time.
