Kathy Mickey, Senior Analyst/Managing Editor of the Education Group at Simba Information spoke at a May 2012 webinar, hosted by MCH Strategic Data, regarding Simba’s report, K-12 Tech Tools and Trends 2012. Built around an MCH Strategic Data survey 2012, the report examined what tools teachers are using, the impact they think the tools have on student achievement, and schools’ future plans for tech purchases. Even with the influx of tablet computers and mobile devices, the study shows that the older technologies are still the ones being used the most. The 2011 Speak Up Survey from Project Tomorrow showed that even when students are taught in traditional lecture-style classrooms, students are still seeking out ways to personalize their learning. More important, two-thirds of students aid that they define school success by the achievement of their own, personal goals. In the report “Mapping a Personalized Learning Journey – K-12 Students and Parents Connects the Dots with Digital Learning,” the authors look at individualized learning in and out of the classroom and the effect technology has had. Jonah Stuart, Director of Public Policy and Government Relations Teaching Strategies, and Jay Diskey, Executive Director of AAP School Division, appeared on Education Talk Radio with Larry Jacobs to discuss the upcoming Content in Context conference (June 3-6 in Washington, DC) and the policy issues impacting the future of the learning resource industry.
